Does your handwriting fill the space?
Or do you write so small,
There’s barely a trace?
I write as small as an elephant,
Whatever the case.
Behind the Poem...Large Print
I do generally have very large handwriting. I can write small if I have to, but I have to think about it - and it's always very messy. I've got that swoopy, half-cursive half-print handwriting and I tend to write fast. It's sort of slanted sometimes, but not really and you're not sure if that's a cursive r or half of an s. I can read it, but I'm surprised anyone else can.
I will say that my handwriting is significantly better if I have a thick writing utensil vs. a thin one. I like to use one of those PaperMate Clearpoint mechanical pencils (even though they are kind of pricey). And I 100% prefer the 0.5 size lead. The 0.7 size is absolutely the bane of my existence. You can't find anything but 0.7 in stores anymore and it frustrates me. Maybe I'm the only person with this issue, but once you wear the 0.7 size to and angle it just makes too soft of an impression. You don't have that problem with the 0.5 size lead - the writing is thin and precise. It's not all fuzzy. And in case you are wondering, you can in fact get a whole box of these 0.5 size pencils on Amazon. I don't have the link anymore, but I know because I asked for a box for Christmas once. Perhaps you do have good handwriting, you're just not using the correct tool for your hand.
While I didn't write this poem just to complain about pencil lead sizes, I do think this issue should have some form of awareness so I'll take what I can get. Also, attempting to draw a pen in an elephant's trunk all with one line was just plain fun. This poem is literally just a poke of fun at one of those little life problems we don't realize how much we think about. While people don't write as much as they used to due to the growing technology, it's still an important and expressive part of daily life. Is your handwriting at big as an elephant?
